Before Mr. Petersen became an attorney, he worked in the regulatory affairs/risk management
field for several large, international corporations in the paper, chemical, mining, and steel
industries. He helped them stay in compliance with myriad rules, regulations, and laws
concerning employee safety and health, environmental affairs, employee relations and human
resources, training, and in acting as a bridge between management and non-management
employees, helping them solve their issues in a mutually beneficial way. Mr. Petersen
obtained certification as a Certified Safety Professional, or CSP, in these careers.
Since becoming an attorney, Mr. Petersen has been building a general legal practice, with
much work in criminal defense and family and domestic law. Mr. Petersen is also a Guardian
ad Litem (GAL) in the State of Alabama. He also performs work for local companies and
individuals engaged in business in the state, as well as helping the individual in planning for the
future or in protecting their various, and important, legal rights. A favored facet of Mr.
Petersen's work is in mediation. He is currently donating part of his time to the Jefferson
County Small Claims docket, helping the parties settle their disputes in a mutually beneficial
way, without the necessity of having the Court impose its verdict on the matter.
Mr. Petersen was, for a number of years, on the Board of Directors of the Industrial Health
Council, at one time serving as Vice President of the Executive Committee. He is also on the
Board of Directors of the Alabama Grapplers Association, a non-profit corporation.
A curious aspect of Mr. Petersen's life is the fact that he is a mixed martial artist ( MMA ).
To his knowledge, he is one of the only two practicing attorneys who are professional
MMA athletes. For those wondering what the graphic is on his card ( on the home page ), it
is one fighter submitting his opponent with an armbar. He has trained and competed in
boxing, Muay Thai, bare knuckle Karate, BJJ, and Judo for many years, and Mr. Petersen
truly enjoys Fighting For YOUR Rights!
